Hi Elizabeth ... I just read your post and thought it was spot on. The notions of rhyming and rhythm in both rap and this folk rendition are really interesting to observe. Neil (Jimmy) does indeed turn this into an "epic of the American dream." I also wandered around your blog a bit and found the post on the use of "dude" to be interesting ... being a huge fan of "The Big Labowski," the idea of The Dude as a third party reference to oneself is something I can relate to. I have to admit I had not been a subscriber to that specific blog of yours -- I am now!
